Covers, B-Sides and Rarities: Deer Tick's "Beautiful Girls"

Here’s another cover of that ever so hip 2007 theme song, Sean Kingston’s ‘Beautiful Girls’ by Deer Tick. Deer Tick is the brain-child of “blonde-haired, blue-eyed, wise beyond his years” 21 year old John McCauley. Had it not been for the music blog of all music blogs, iguessimfloating.blogspot.com, I wouldn’t have been fairly acquainted with the music of Deer Tick, and consequently have been so bold enough to mention about him, when the name doesn’t ring a bell to most of us.

I gained trust in their conviction, and gave McCauley’s works a ‘right-click, save as’, and found that the outcome surprisingly, didn’t disappoint. The music is a fresh breed of folk and dreamy, woodsy melodies that can be raggedly wistful.

So you see, I was eager to find out how Deer Tick’s take on ‘Beautiful Girls’ would turn out, but only to discover that the remake sounded (shockingly) no different to Plain White T’s version, only sung in a raspier voice such as in a “younger Tom Waits”.
